A leisurely Saturday drive – By: Billy Blake
I was fortunate enough to attend the annual Cloverleaf drive hosted by the ZSCCA club this past
weekend. I could only attend Saturday but it was by far worth the 3 hour trip in the pouring rain from
Hurricane to Lewisburg. I left out Friday afternoon in an attempt to join the rest of the attendees for
dinner at Hill and Holler. Unfortunately heavy rain and speed are not the best companions - no accidents
but I arrived very late. As it turned out the weather turned the tide in my favor and the kitchen was behind
due to a brief power outage! I settled into the hotel and headed on to dinner.
The atmosphere was terrific at the restaurant. A combination bicycle shop and restaurant with a live
band is an interesting combination to say the least. Libation was already awaiting my arrival and my
great friends Adam and Kathy Moore happily shared their abundance of food. Half a calzone and garlic
and spinach pizza later I was relaxed and sharing the company of folks from all over the country who
came for the Cloverleaf and had just spent the day driving to snowshoe mountain resort and enjoying
spirited driving along the way. It was a great evening and beginning to my weekend drive.
Saturday morning came with an 8:30 drivers meeting. Our drive leader Chris was celebrating his
sixtieth birthday! What better way to spend it than in the company of friends and doing what you love.
We Reviewed the route and I was Checked in and provided a radio. We covered the various routes and
noted a few changes along the way and soon we were out the door to line up. As this was my first
organized drive, I had no idea what to expect. I was given a spot near the front with the "spirited" driving
group and with radios and lights on, we were off!
