Cloverleaf 2015 – By: Adam Moore
The ZSCCA (Z Series Car Club of America) a special interest group of the BMW CCA, of which I am
also the WV Area Rep, hosted Cloverleaf 2015 the long weekend of 8-11 October 2015, in Lewisburg,
WV. The Mountain State Chapter of the BMW CCA was also invited to participate. We had 13 cars in
total with 23 people attend the event.
For those of you that may not be familiar with driving in that area of the State there are a multitude of
awesome twisty roads to test not only your cars performance and handling but your driving skills as well.
While we did drive as one large group there was a virtual line separating those that wanted to go
REALLY fast and those who just want to go fast and enjoy the drives. During 3.5 days of driving the
group dynamics shifted around and most wound up driving REALLY fast anyway.
We all met at the Fairfield Inn in Lewisburg for our Thursday arrival. The hotel let us use their
conference room for the weekend and provided amenities such as an overhead projector (for previous
drives videos) and a huge cooler with ice. The hotel staff was awesome and was always happy to
provide assistance.
Dwayne Milam, whose bio is above, led the first day of driving on Friday. We took some awesome
twisty roads and went to destinations such as Greenbank, Snow Shoe and a pass-through of Cass
Railroad. The design of Cloverleaf is to run a full circle so we wind up back at the hotel at the end of the
day. We were on the road this day for over 6 hours. For dinner that night we all went to Hill and Holler
which is a bike rental shop in Lewisburg that also does brick oven fired pizzas. The food was absolutely
fantastic!!! If you haven’t eaten there I highly recommend it!
Chris Wooten, President of ZSCCA, led the second day of driving on Saturday. He labeled the drive “a
drivers day”. And he was spot on!!! We drove for close to 8 hours on twisty roads that took us to Clay for
lunch winding up back at the hotel. Some of the routes we drove had twisties so tight they were listed at
15MPH….we of course were much faster than that! Some of the straight stretches were so long and so
smooth we were hitting 110MPH plus! It was another awesome day of driving! For dinner that night we
went to Del Sol in Lewisburg. Again the food was fantastic as well as the camaraderie!
Yours truly led the final drive on Sunday. It was billed as a twisty tour of the backroads to Tamarack.
We took the scenic route and stopped at Bluestone dam then on to Tamarack for lunch. The food there is
of course excellent!
Overall we drove over 600 miles of fast twisty roads around Lewisburg. This doesn’t count travel back
and forth from homes, it was all high speed twisty fun! For those that didn’t attend I highly recommend
attending in 2016. We plan on switching up the routes and maybe even stay in some cabins vs the hotel.
More info will come as 2016 rolls along.
